Short-circuiting unacceptable thinking

"Some scientists have even ventured to suggest that, one day, neuroplasticity could be used in short-circuiting the brain’s racist, sexist, or otherwise culturally unacceptable thinking patterns; even the body’s ability to perform intricate sequences of activities necessary for sports and other highly complex physical processes might eventually be perfected through the power of neuroplasticity." --Intro To Neuroplaticity memoryzine.com

The section from which this passage was taken was sub-titled, Seeking A World Without Mental Heath Issues, which to me is sort of like saying, Seeking A World Without Humanity. What would our world look like if there were no metal health issues? Would no scientists or artists need to struggle with monomania? Would we have the Oxford English Dictionary or other artistic or scholastic endeavors that called for a single-minded determination that outsiders would have labeled illness? Who would draw the distinction between acceptable sadness and the type the world should go without? Would we allow the generalized anxiety that birthed Waiting For Godot or the drug addiction that spawned Naked Lunch? To me the search for "A World Without" is as quixotic as the search for the Philosopher's Stone, but the pitfalls that can befall a society on such a treasure hunt are, unfortunately, all too real...pitfalls like seriously considering ways to short-circuit "culturally unacceptable thinking patterns".
